Tagesbote aus Böhmen 15/10/1854 published news that ‘The concerts of the Cecilia Society, which is in the 15th year of its activities, commence during this year’s Winter Season. The directorate notifies participating society members that rehearsals to the society’s concerts start next Monday 16th October in the society’s rooms (Bartholomew Street 308-1), on each Monday for orchestra and on Thursdays for singers, both at 6pm.’ The text then noted that given the capacious rooms in which the rehearsals took place, dilettante musicians were invited to join the orchestra, and particularly string players. An almost identical report imparting the same information was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 15/10/1854.
