Národní listy 31/12/1862 published an advertisement announcing this event: ‘Civic Society [Měšťanská beseda]. Today on the evening of St Sylvester plays in the rooms of the Society the musical ensemble of „Sokol“. Beginning at half-past 7 in the evening. Honourable members and their ladies are respectfully invited to attend and it is requested of the gentlemen that they carry their admission tickets with them. Committee of the Civic Society.’ No further details were given of this event by the source. The participation of the strongly patriotic Czech Sokol ensemble provided a signal of the pro-Czech outlook of the Měšťanská beseda.

Two further advertisements were published in this issue of Národní listy noting that the Sokol ensemble was also playing on the same day in the Café
„u Sokola“ [At the Eagle] and in the Slav Café [Slovanská kavárna]. Whether these were all at different times or the Sokol orchestra split into smaller groups playing at the different venues is not apparent from these reports.
