komentář:

A Dalibor 1/12/1862 review of this event, signed ‘-x-’, remarked that although the performers in this production of Vitásek’s ‘excellent’ Requiem ‘deserved total praise, [. . .] it pained us to observe that the conductor Mr Krejčí did not penetrate the spirit and the majesty of the work, and in his direction employed such tempi for which the late Vitásek would have certainly not have thanked him. Mr Krejčí’s tempi were so clumsy that the delicate details of this remarkable requiem were almost completely wiped out and the composition itself was lacking any effect. We are greatly astonished that the honourable Society of Musical Artists in Prague entrusted the direction of this work to so reckless a baton; for sure we have in Prague enough men who would have directed this performance with the greatest consideration.’

According to news published by Národní listy 16/11/1862, this event was to have taken place on 20/11/1862 at 11am. This text related the: ‘Prague Society of Musical Artists arranges on Thursday 20th November at 11am in the parish Church of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star at St Francis their annual solemn Requiem for deceased protectors, associate protectors, honorary and active members. The performance will be directed by Mr J. Krejčí of the Requiem by J.N. Vitásek in E-flat major and Hymnus by L. Spohr.’ However, a subsequent report published by Dalibor 20/11/1862 and a review in Dalibor 1/12/1862 confirm the performance date as having been 27/11/1862. The performance of the Hymnus by Spohr was not mentioned in the subsequent Dalibor review.
