Commentary:

Prager Morgenpost 14/3/1861 reported that ‘The 13-year old pianist and glass harmonica playet, Eduard Gerstberger, gives on 23rd March at 4.30pm in the Žofín Island Hall a concert, at which pieces by Beethoven, Herz, Hackel, Kittel [Kittl], Kücken and Schulhoff - as well as other proposed by the audience and selected through lottery. Half of the profit from this concert will by given toward the purchase of bells for the Little-Quarter Cemetery Church.’

A brief, unsigned review of this event was published by Prager Zeitung 29/3/1861. The correspondent reported that ‘The benefit concert of the 13-year old pianist and glass harmonica player Eduard Gerstberger, which took place on 23rd March in the Hall on Žofín island, had a favourable success and the young concert giver as well as the participants Miss M. Hřimalí [Hřimalá] and Mr J Pos
ňansky [Poznanský] were for their creditable performance rewarded with repeated applause from the very numerous audience.
