According to the Národní listy 20/1/1861 report appearing in the section of the newspaper entitled ‘Daily news’ [Denní zprávy], this was the first masked ball of the pre-Lenten season. No details of the music to be performed was specified by this report. Appearing in the same issue of the newspaper was an advertisement noting that an omnibus service would be provided for those attending the event. These operated half hourly both to and from the New Town Theatre beginning at 8pm and continuing until midnight. There were two routes each with two services. Omnibuses 1 and 2 travelled from the Lesser Quarter, past the New Alej and cost 30 kr per person. Omnibuses 3 and 4 traveled from the Old Town Square, along Želená ulice [Iron Street] past Můstek and cost 20 kr per person. At midnight the services returned for the cost of 40 and 30 kr per person respectively. The advertisment – and presumably the operator of the enterprise – was Josef Grötschel.
