Commentary:

According to the Dalibor review, signed ‘-e-’, these examinations achieved a ‘very gratifying success’, illustrating the ‘assiduity and prudence’ of Kerbel’s teaching. The review remarked that with the elementary pupils the method of tuition given by the school soon showed good results. ‘The peformance of easier pieces was accurate. In the second part Miss Rosa Skalníkova acquited herself with a pretty performance of an Idyll by W.H. Veit (op.47), which was well-liked. Very sturdily demonstrated herself Miss Marie Kourová, who very cleanly and expressively performed the sonata (nr.3 in E minor) by Haydn. In the third part we heard salon and concert pieces by Ch. Wehle, Jul. Schulhoff, Th. Kulák, then the Sonata pathétique and Carnaval de Venise by A. Jael [Jaell], the last two works bering performed by Miss M. Rozumova with expression and with great ability.’ The text also listed other students who performed in the examinations and were considered deserving of mention; they comprised Miss Olga Pštrosová, Anna Meyerová, František Pštros, and Josef Pánek.
