Commentary:

News of this event was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 25/1/1857. A report noted that the Žofín Academy [Sophienakademie] to celebrate the birthday of its patron, Her Royal Highness the Archduchess Sophie, was organizing a festival mass in St Clement’s Church. The works listed in the event record were stated as being performed. A brief unsigned review appeared in Mercy’s Anzeiger 2/2/1857. This related that last Tuesday for the celebration of the birthday of Her Royal Highness the Archduchess Sophie [Žofie] there was given in St Clement’s Church a high mass including a performance of the new Mass in C major by J. Holub, choir director at St Galli [Sv Havel]. The work was praised, being considered worthy in conception and constituting an important contribution to the genre.
