Commentary:

On 1/1/1857 the Vergnügungsanzeiger section of Mercy’s Anzeiger noted that ‘Today Thursday... Café Romanovsky: Černy’s [Černý] Sextet’. No further details were given by the source. Interesingly, the same Vergnügungsanzeiger announced at the ‘Guest house ‘at the 3 carps’: Czerny’s Sextet.’ Although divergent German and Czech spelling of Černý were thus used, it is most likely that the same ensemble appeared at both venues [obviously at different times of the day]. Inconsistent spelling was not unusual in Czech and German periodical sources of the period.
