Mercy’s Anzeiger 5/5/1854 published a notice announcing ‘Great orchestra of the Royal Military; afternoons. On the Žofín Island: Tuesday, Friday, Sunday; in Zdekauer’s (formerly Count Canal’s Garden): Sunday, Wednesday, Saturday; in the Estates Arboretum: Sunday and Thursday.’ No further details were given by the notice, which continued to be published throughout the summer season.
The Vergnügungsanzeiger of Mercy’s Anzeiger 6/7/1854 announced that ‘Today Thursday: In the Royal Estates Arboretum [a] great musical entertainment of the Royal Infantry Regiment Archduke Albrecht’. No further details were given by the source.On 8/7/1854 this newspaper published a brief account of the event, reporting that the occasion ‘was very numerously attended [war sehr fleißig besucht]. The beautiful clear weather, coupled with the as-ever new attractions which Mr Pohl arranges for these favourite entertainments had attracted a great and elegant crowd, and the ladies in the society were ... [numerously present] and of charming bearing and dress. The dancing and conversation was exceptionally lively, and also the music left nothing to be desired. Late into the night the area of the prettily decorated dance venue was full.’
