Commentary:

Der Tagesbote 19/7/1854 reported that on Monday 24th July from 9am until 12noon would take place the public examinations for pupils of the Seminary Institute for the Blind, whose patron was the Cardinal-Archbishop Count von Schwarzenberg. The students would be tested not only on literary studies but also on their musical knowledge. No further details were given by this source.

A brief, unsigned review of these examinations appeared in Der Tagesbote 26/7/1854. The source reported that all 32 pupils (20 boys and 12 girls), performed suprisingly well in all parts of the examinations. ‘Particularly excellent was the very successful musical production, to which the public responded with the loudest applause. His Excellency the Mayor, Baron von Wecséry, honoured the Examination through his presence.’
