Commentary:

Advance news of this event was published by Bohemia 9/1/1851. The report related that for the early Carnival season a ‘great National-Ball’ was being prepared for 5th February to take place in the Apollo Hall. A musical trial for this event was announced for 12th January at the same venue. Then, compositions of such ‘favourite composers as Strauß, Labitzky, Gungl, Miss Ringelsberg, Pergler, Petrak, Král and others will be given, performed by the band of the First National Guard Battalion under the personal direction of their Kapellmeister Mr Pergler.’ Many of these works were undoubtedly performed too on the date of the National Ball itself.

The Tagesanzeiger text of Bohemia 4/2/1851 reported the date and venue of this event.
