Details of this event, noted as ‘Gesellschaftsball’ were published in the Tagesanzeiger text of Bohemia 28/1/1851, listing its date and venue. Prager Zeitung 28/1/1851 published a notice from the Ball Comittee signed 27th January that admission to this event - the date, time, venue and beneficiary of which was noted - was by entrance cards specifically bearing the name of the person to be admitted. These were available from specified individuals and from the office of the organizers. The text of this same notice appeared as news in the Tagesneuigkeiten section of the supplement to Prager Zeitung 27/1/1851.
A brief, unsigned review of this event was published by Bohemia 31/1/1851. This noted that ‘Thriving for many years under the protection of Prince Rohan, the Society for the Support of the Poor [Verein zur Unterstützung der Hausarmen] organized a Society Ball on the evening of the 29th. The agreeable locality was tastefully decorated and lit as bright as daylight.’ Attending were numerous guests, including the ‘cream of Prague society’, with the hall said to be overful. The ‘circumspect’ organization by the committee of the dances that were given [‘Contra- and Round-dances’] was praised by the critic. A review was also published by Prager Zeitung 31/1/1851 that described the decoration and practical arrangements at the event but made no comment about the musical content of the occasion.
