Commentary:

Details of the events surrounding the enthronement of the Cardinal and Archbishop Prince Friedrich Schwarzenberg were published by Prager Zeitung 16/8/1850. The report was dated 15/8/1850 but did not specify the date of the occasion. Given the considerable state and civil importance of the event the report was probably published soon afterwards; the database record suggests 15th August given the enthronement took place early in the morning, although this date may not be correct.

The Prager Zeitung text described the events of the day, which began with a procession from Nusle to the St Nicholas church in the Malá strana, where a mass was given at 7.30am, and then to the metropolian church of St Vitus [Sv Vít]. Of music performances associated with the occasion that are mentioned by the source, an accompaniment of trumpets and drums was noted during the procession, and inside the St Nicholas church at the giving of a mass were ‘many singers’ as well as the ensemble of the First Field-Artillery Regiment.
