Commentary:

Prager Morgenpost 25/7/1863 published news of this event, reporting: ‘Music Examination [Musik-Prüfung]. The annual examination production for pupils of the Music Institute of Mr Vinc. Micko takes place on 27th July at 10am and at 4pm in the Hall of the Žofín Island.’

A brief report upon these examinations, confirming that they did indeed occur on 27/7/1863 in the Žofín Island Hall, was published by the German-language newspaper Politik 2/8/1863. The correspondent commented that Micko’s had over several years gained worthy recognition for his piano teaching institute, and that the performances on this occasion were convincing testimony to the excellent progress of pupils in both concertante solo pieces and ensemble pieces for four pianos, such as of Mozart’s E-flat major Symphony, the Overture to „Waldblume“ by Kittl, [Overture] to „Tell“ and other works. No further details were given by the source and no participating pupils identified.
