Prague Men's Singing Society [Prager Männergesangsverein]
Prager Morgenpost 7/7/1863 reported that ‘With good weather, the Prague Men’s Singing Society is arranging on the morning of Sunday 12th July a singing excursion for Záwist, the return journey being by boat during the evening. A musical ensemble [Musik-Chor] will accompany the singers and their guests on the outward and return journeys.’ No further details were given by this source. The ensemble in question may have been a choral body, perhaps of members of this society, or may have been an instrumental group, maybe from one of the local military regiments.
A brief account of the success of this event was provided by the Society and published in Prager Morgenpost 19/7/1863. This noted that the event had been successful and well-attended despite the weather being described as variably inclement. Participating and singing in the soirée that follwed the excursion were said to be new members of the Society. An anniversary festival for the founding of the Männergesangsverein was reported to be scheduled for the end of July.
