Commentary:

A substantial framed advertisement for this event was published by Prager Morgenpost 31/5/1863. This announced: ‘Hop Pole [Hopfenstock]. The undersigned begs the permission of the esteemed Public to reveal his news that he has taken over the newly renovated Salon- and Garden-Restaurant in the Hop Pole, and that the same opens on Monday 1st June, at which will be performing the ensemble of the worthy Royal Infantry Regiment of King Wilhelm I of Prussia under personal direction of the Kapellmeister Mr Lewengly.’ Guest, it was noted, could avail themselves of good food and drink. The advertisement was signed by ‘Franz Buddeus, Restauranter’. The advertisement was repeated in Prager Morgenpost 1/6/1863. The Hop Pole Restaurant and Guest House was popular throughout the 1850s as a venue for social musical entertainments.
