Commentary:

Národní listy 14/1/1863 reported in its section of daily news that ‘On 26th January of this year elder apprentice tailors [krejčovští starší tovaryši] will be arranging a dance ball in the Konvikt Hall to benefit there fellow brethren who are incapable of work, We may affirm boldly that we can always number the ball of Prague tailors among the most substantive and flamboyant [nejspořádanější a nejokázalejší] of Prague balls. And so it is possible to hope that with regard to the honourable cause of this entertainment it will gain plenty of support. Also to benefit the needy or incapable of work fellow factory machine workers it to be organized a society ball, to which it is possible to obtain tickets on the day of the entertainment, which will be declared later, at the box office.’

This event was most likely organised by the Prague Foundation for ill Master-tailors who arranged annual charitable events for their cause.
