Commentary:

Substantial repeated advertisements were published in Prager Morgenpost during the four days leading up to this event, as well as on the day itself. The occasion was the opening in Prague of a new inn, the Litoměřice Beer Hall. This hostelry, which specialised in offering a range of beers brewed in and around the town of Litoměřice, was located in Bergmanova ulice junction with Nikolandska ulice at nr.126-2.

The advertisements published between 14/12/1862 and 17/12/1862 inclusive announced: ‘Opening of the Leitmeritzer Beerhalle „At the Golden Barrel.“ Thursday 18th December 1862 will open the newly constructed Leitmeritzer Bierhalle
„At the Golden Barrel“ (New Town Bergmann’s Street, at the end of Nikolander Street nr.126-2)...’ The venture would hopefully be a success with good food and drink hopefully attracting the patronage of the public. ‘On the day of the opening, as well as on each following Wednesday plays there Koubek’s favourite Salon orchestra.’ The advertisement was signed by the restauanteur of the venue, Friedrich Kunz. The advertisement published in Prager Morgenpost 18/12/1862 was identical except for the specification ‘Today’.
