Name: Loreto Shrine
Venue rooms (type):
Complex of Baroque chapels, church and a shrine, the latter which was begun in 1626. Located in the Hradčany district on Loretánské náměstí [Loreto Square]. The K.I. Dietzenhofer designed main front of the complex incorporates a bell tower with carillon. According to Kafka, F., Baedecker's Prague (Stuttgart: Baedeker, 1991) this was installed by P. Neumann in 1694 and consists of 27 bells that were cast in Amsterdam by Claude Fremy at the behest of the wealthy Prague merchant Eberhard von Glauchau. Prager Morgenpost 5/9/1859, in reporting upon an imminent performance on the carillon, related that the instrument incorporated an organ-like keyboard installed by the clockmaker Peter Neumann in the year 1694, and comprised 30 bells from Amsterdam cast by Claudius Frömm of Rosten and bought by the Prague merchant Heinrich von Glauchen.See also:
