Charles-Simon Catel

Catel, Charles-Simon (1773-1830). French composer and pianist. Pupil of both Sacchini and Gossec, his early career was as a teacher. He then became associate director of the musicians of the Garde Nationale, and was also an accompanist at the Paris Opéra. Appointed first professor of harmony at the newly founded Paris Conservatoire in 1795.
