probably Wallace, Vincent [William] (1812-1865). Irish violinist and composer. His early years were spent in Dublin, mainly working as an organist and violinist. In 1834 performed his own violin concerto there, and a year later began to tour abroad, travelling as far as Australia. He travelled to London and in 1845 gained much critical acclaim there with his opera Maritana. Subsequently he enjoyed a successful operatic career, worked in Germany for fourteen years and visited North and South America. Compositions include various operas and other secular vocal works, a violin concerto and a body of piano music.
