Heinrich Esser

Esser, Heinrich (1818-1872). German conductor and composer. From 1838 engaged as principal of the Mannheim Nationaltheater. He worked in Mainz from 1840 until 1847 when he succeeded Nicolai as Kapellmeister of the court opera in Vienna, remaining in the post until 1869. His compositions included several operas, three of which were performed, many songs and choruses and also some orchestral works and chamber music.
