Graf, Vilém (d.1872). Czech pianist and composer. In the 1850s toured extensively throughout Europe with the violinist Laub, becoming a favourite particularly in Prague. The German-language Prague newspaper Tagesbote aus Böhmen 9/7/1857 reported that Graf was undertaking with Laub a tour ‘of the most exquisite Bohemian Spas’ in which they were giving musical soirées. After the completion of this artistic journey Mr Graf will make a second trip, then of which will be taking in the major cities of Hungary.’ On 3/9/1857 Tagesbote aus Böhmen reported the publication by Schott of Mainz of the op.47 of Graf’s ‘immensely rich’ piano compositions, offering an enthusiastic appraisal of the work, L’Adieu des Hirondelles. On 29/9/1857 this same newspaper noted that Graf was about to leave for Vienna, where during the season he would give several concerts.
