Rodolphe Kreutzer

Kreutzer, Rodolphe (1766-1831). French violinist and composer. Appointed first violinist at the French chapel royal at the age of 16. Later became leader of the orchestra at the Théâtre Italien and began to produce his own operas. Became Professor of Violin at the Paris Conservatoire in 1795. He also toured as a violinist, visiting Vienna in 1798 and becoming acquainted with Beethoven. In 1801 he followed Rode as leader of the Paris Opéra. His compositions include many operas and ballets, c.19 violin concerti and other concertante works, and muh chamber music.
