John Field
Field, John (1782-1837). Irish pianist and composer. Early musical education from his family in Dublin. Moved to England and in London became apprenticed to Clementi. Established himself as a pianist, demonstrating instruments in Clementi’s piano warehouse and performing in concerts. Toured Europe in 1802 with Clementi and remained in St Petersburg a year later. He settled in Russia, first in St Petersburg and in 1822 in Moscow, both teaching and giving concerts. He toured Europe again in the 1830s. As a composer his output was almost exclusively geared to the piano.
