Johann Pawlis
Pavlis, Jan (1819-1880). Czech composer, military music conductor and teacher. Studied trumpet and trombone at the Prague Conservatory. From 1843 played trombone in the German Estates Theatre orchestra. In 1855 he succeeded J.V. Svoboda as director of the Prague Military Music Institute, which he successfully led and promoted for the remainder of his life. Composed many marches and dances.
