Conradin Kreutzer

Kreutzer, Conradin (1780-1849). German conductor and composer. Travelled in Switzerland as pianist and singer before moving to Vienna in 1804 to study composition with Albrechtsberger. Conducted at Stuttgart and Donaueschingen before returning to Vienna working at various times as a conductor at the Kärntnertor Theatre and Josefstadt Theatre between 1825 and 1840. Later he appeared as a conductor in Paris and Cologne, but returned again to Vienna. His works include over 30 operas, several of which enjoyed considerable success in theatres across Europe and in Prague until well into the 1860s. Other compositions include incidental music, a body of church music, chamber works, miscellaneous piano pieces, and many songs and male-voice partsongs and choruses.
