Pixis, Johann Peter (1788-1874). German pianist and composer. Studied pianoforte with his father. Gained a reputation as an able pianist appearing in public alongside his violinist brother, Friedrich Wilhelm (1786-1842) who became first Professor of Violin at the Prague Conservatoire. Settled first in Munich (from 1809), and then in Paris (from 1825) where he became a successful teacher of the piano. Moved to Baden-Baden in 1845 and continued teaching there. Works include 3 operas and much piano music.
