Adalbert Hřímali

Hřímalý, Vojtěch (1842-1908). Czech violinist and composer. Pupil of Mildner at the Prague Conservatory (1855-1861). On graduating with his brother moved to Rotterdam in August 1861 to take up places in František Škroup’s opera orchestra. A year later Národní listy 15/9/1862 reported his gaining the position of principal violinist in the theatre orchestra in Gothenberg in Sweden, a post that he would apparently take up on 1/10/1862 for the annual remuneration of 996 tol. Returned to Prague in 1868 to become leader of the orchestra of the Czech Provisional Theatre. In 1873 he moved for a year to the German Theatre as its assistant Kapellmeister. Active as a writer and critic, also as a composer, perhaps the most successful of his works being the comic opera Zakletý princ [The Enchanted Prince] (1872).
