František Ignác Tůma
Tůma, František Ignác (1704-1774). Czech composer. Son of a provincial organist, he studied philosophy in Prague and was a singer in the Church of St Henry [Sv Jakub]. Following later studies in Vienna he became in 1731 court composer to Count Kinský and then in 1741 for nine years court composer an Kapellmeister to the Empress Elisabeth. He then returned to the Czech lands where he occupied himself teaching and in composition. His output comprises much church music, including more than 30 masses, as well as a large body of instrumental compositions.
