Josef Adolf Bergmann

Bergmann, Josef Adolf (1822-1901). Composer, organist and teacher. The son of a teacher in Litoměřice, he studied at the Prague Organ School and was then organist in the Prague churches of St Francis and St James [Sv František, Sv Jakub]. After spending a year in Dresden he moved to Mladá Boleslav where he was engaged as an organist and choirmaster, and where Dalibor 10/9/1862 reported he was to establish a local piano institute. He returned to Prague in the late 1860s where he remained active as a choirmaster and composer (mainly of vocal music) for the remainder of his life.
