Personendetails

Alfred Jaell

Jaëll

Jaell, Alfred (1832-1882). Austrian pianist and composer. Toured early in his career in Germany and France, and in North America. In 1857 he became court pianist at the Hanover court, and later moved to Paris where he spent the remainder of his life. He appeared several times in Prague in 1862-1863 in concert with the violinist Laub. Evidently a large man from the description of the Feuilleton of the Prague German-language newspaper Politik 25/1/1863, which noted: ‘You have heard Jaell in Prague; you can therefore pass your own judgement on him. It is astonishing how his thick fingers are able to glide over the keys with such facility.’
