Alžběta Elise Mathiasová Matthias

Mathias, Elizabeth. Singer, appearing in Prague in 1857 and described by the Czech periodical Lumír [which as a matter of course adopted the Czech form of her surname, Mathiasová] as ‘from Paris’. Possibly relation to the French pianist and composer Georges Mathias (1826-1910). Tagebote aus Böhmen 15/3/1857, in referring to her forthcoming appearance in a concert to take place in Prague on 18/3/1857, noted her teachers in Paris and remarked that she had gained considerable acclaim when performing in the Leipzig Gewandhaus.
