Josef Slavík
Slavík, Josef (1806-1833). Czech violinist and composer. Studied violin at the Prague Conseratory under Pixis (1816-1823). After graduating he entered the orchestra of the Estates Theatre, but soon began to establish himself as an accomplished virtuoso, the first Czech archetypal Romantic virtuoso violinist. Although an ardent patriot, active in developing patriotic Czech circles and numbering among his friends Josef Jungmann and František Palacký, in c.1825 he moved to Vienna.
