Bendel, Franz [also František] (1832-1874). Czech pianist and composer. Pupil of the Music Institute of Josef Proksch, and later of Franz Liszt, of whose music and ideals he was an enthusiastic supporter. Gained much success as a virtuoso throughout Europe and later became a teacher at the Berlin school of Theodor Kullak. His output as a composer contains many salon works for the piano, a number of songs and also some sacred compositions.
