Kommentar:

Advance details of this concert were published by Prager Morgenpost 26/10/1860. The source reported that ‘The Prague Men’s Singing Society is arranging a Liedertafel in the Žofín Island Hall on 29th October at 8pm’ and listed the German and Czech works of the programme. This issue of the newspaper also contained a notice issued by the committee of the Society relating the arrangement of this ‘Liedertafel’ on 29th October, and noting that founder and contributing members should due to the sudden illness of the usual Society source obtain their entrance tickets from the Secretary, Mr Johann Leuthner on Obstgasse.

A brief and disparaging Dalibor 1/11/1860 review remarked that the members of the ‘local’ Men’s Singing Society were ‘almost all Czechs’, yet pointedly drew attention to a perceived imbalance in the programme comprising seven German choruses to only three Czech. ‘The Czech choruses were liked greatly, and the chorus by Slavík was repeated. When will our Prague singers and musicians recover their national consciousness; for surely in this respect every [Czech] village is shamed?’
