A post-performance report of this event was published by Bohemia 7/11/1850. The occasion was given to commemorate Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy who had died on 4th November 1847. Attending were noted to be a large number of members, who ‘were granted a highly pleasurable evening’. The evening was prefaced with a speech given by an unnamed member, drawing particular attention to the ‘noble beauty and true art’  of Mendelssohn’s Germanic music in comparison with the decadence of modern Italian composition. Of the sequence of ‘almost all excellently performed works’, those receiving most applause were an unspecified bass aria from the oratorio Paulus, the chorus Der Wasserfahrt, ‘the excellent duet Herbstlied which had to be repeated, and the marvellously beautiful Lied “Auf Flügeln des Gesanges”. Lieder ohne Worte for violin and piano were also given, although only Das venetianische Gondelied was specifically identified, having been that which gained most applause. The ‘festival’ was concluded ‘in a worthy manner’ with the chorus Der Jägers Abschied, which also had to be encored.
