The German-languague newspaper Tagesbote aus Böhmen 14/1/1857 noted that ‘Opening the round of this year’s Carneval festivities on Monday (12th) was a brilliant Ball at the Governor Baron von Mecséry’s.’ No further details of this event were given in this issue of this source. This was the first of several such entertainments given by the Governor during the Carneval season of 1857.
