Advance news of the forthcoming annual general meeting of the Prague Typographer’s Society, Typographia, and of the associated musical entertainment arranged in association with this meeting, was published by Národní listy 17/4/1863. The source related ‘„Typografia“, society of Prague Typographers, will be having its first general meeting on Sunday 19th April at 10am in Konvikt Hall. To celebrate the anniversary of the foundation of the society, a beseda will be arranged at 4.30pm in the same locality. The programme is as follows: 1) Music. – 2.) Address, by J.V. Jahn. – 3) „Na vlast“ [To the homeland] chorus by Müller. – 4) „Žižkova smrt“ [Žižka’s death] , by J. Neruda. – 5) Staročeská [Old Czech] chorus by J.N. Skroup [Škroup]. – 6) „Granáty“ by J. Kaj. Tyl. 7) „Vltava“ chorus by F.A. Vogl. – 8) Music. – 9) „Má otčina“ [My Fatherland] chorus by Slavík. – 10) „Žena a muž“ [Wife and husband] by V. Plzeňský. – 11) „Píseň při draní“ [Ploughing song] chorus by Horák. – 12) Mazurka. Chorus by V. Furch. – 13) „Šumař“ by Tůma. – 14) „Hasme, hoří!“ [Let’s put out the fire] chorus by Slavík. Following this is a dance entertainment.’
Prager Morgenpost 21/4/1863 published a report of the recent annual general meeting of Typographia, the Prague Typographer’s Society. Aside from noting that the occasion involved musical entertainment, the source offered detailed information about the society Typographia itself. the report noted: ‘The General Meeting of the Society „Typographia“ for the support of ill printing workers took place on 19th April in the Konvikt Hall, presided over by the President Mr Karl Bellmann. Following a brief opening speech the annual report was read out in both national languages [i.e. Czech and German]. From this it was to be seen that the society had assets of 1842fl 76kr in securities and bullion, the gross income of the society amounted to (between 29th March 1862 to 22nd March 1863), 2750fl 88kr, the outgoings 908fl 12kr. This supported 39 ill members for 157 weeks. The society numbered 247 members... At 5 o’clock in the evening the social entertainment [Kommers] began with a musical-declamatory entertainment [einer musikalisch-deklamatorischen unterhaltung], which lasted until 8 o’clock. Afterwards was the seats were cleared and we were offered a dance entertainment that continued until early morning...’ No further information about the musical content, neither the performers nor the programme, of the occasion was given in the report.
