Mercy’s Anzeiger 27/2/1857 published news that ‘Director Mr P. Maydl again arranges this Lent in his Music Institute 6 musical soirées [musikalische Soiréen], namely on 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th March and 4th April, all at 5pm. The first of these soirées promises to be very interesting in that, as we hear, amongst other things there will be performed concert-pieces [i.e. concertante works] with the accompaniment of Komsak’s [Komzák] Salon Orchestra.’ No further details were given by this source.
The German-language Prague newspaper Tagesbote aus Böhmen 27/2/1857 also reported that ‘In the Music Institute of Mr P. Maydl also takes place in this year’s Lenten season six musical Soirées; specifically on 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th March and 4th April, all at 5pm. The first of these Soirées promises to be very interesting, in that individual concert-pieces with orchestra will be performed, with Komsak’s Salon Orchestra providing the accompaniment for the latter.’
A brief and unsigned review of this event was published by Mercy’s Anzeiger 3/2/1857. The text noted ‘The first Soirée that took place yesterday in the Music Institute of Mr P. Maydl was very numerously attended, and excelled in the meticulous performance by pupils of brilliant piano pieces.’
