The Vergnügungsanzeiger of Mercy’s Anzeiger 23/1/1857 announced ‘Today Friday... New Town Coffee-salon: Komsak’s [Komzák] Orchestra.’ An advertisement was published in the same issue of this newspaper relating:
‘New Town Coffee-salon
Salon orchestra of the reorganized Royal Warranted Sharpshooters musical ensemble [k.k. priv. Scharfschützenmusik], under the personal direction of the first Kapellmeister
Mr
Karl Komsak.’
No further details were given by these sources. The Vergnügungsanzeiger specification of ‘Komsak’s [Komzák] Orchestra’ illustrates the difficulty of identifying which ensembles of Komzák participated in local events at this period. The advertisement made clear that the ensemble was that of the Sharpshooters, of which Komzák had recently become director.
