Mercy’s Anzeiger 2/6/1854 reported that as part of ‘preliminary celebrations for the arrival of their Majesties takes place today (2nd June) in the former Count Canal’s Garden [at this time usually titled Zdekauer’s Garden], an extraordinary Fest-Soiree [Festival Soirée], in which the newly organized Prague Civil Band [Prager Civilkapelle] under the direction of Mr Schäde will perform favourite compositions. To conclude [the event] a great lighting display with Bengal lights has been arranged.’ Bengal lights were a type of firework that were originally used for signalling, burning like a flare with a steady blue light.
