Mercy’s Anzeiger 21/2/1857 reported that a ball was to be given by the Governor Baron von Mecséry on 25th February. However, Mercy’s Anzeiger 24/2/1857 reported that on 22nd February a ‘brilliant Festival ball [ein glänzendes Ballfest]’ was given by the His Excellency the Governor, Baron von Mecséry. Among those present was the Cardinal-Archbishop Prince von Schwarzenberg, His Excellency the General of the Cavalry Count Schlik, members of the high nobility, the highest civil and military authorities, representatives from the local administration, the University, the city [Bürgerschaft] and the chamber of commerce.’ No details were given about the content or character of the event.
