Tagesbote aus Böhmen 16/4/1857 reported that ‘On Sunday on the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor Ferdinand will in the Church of St Veit [Svatý Vít] at 11am be given a solemn Mass.’

After noting that a Mass had been given on the previous day (19th) in the Týn Church to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor Ferdinand, Tagesbote aus Böhmen 20/4/1857 related that ‘At 11 o’clock there took place for the same reason a solemn Mass, at which His Eminence the Cardinal Archbishop Prince Schwarzenberg pontificated, in the Castle church [i.e. St Vitus on Hradčany]. All Civil and Military Authorities, the members of the University, the Prague Garrison and a numerous crowd had gathered to attend the uplifting celebrations.’ No details were given of the musical content of this event.
