Karel, Alois Věkoslav (1843-1862). Violoncellist and composer. Entered the Prague Conservatory as a 'cellist in 1855 [according to Bohemia 30/4/1860, p.938]. Bohumír Štědron, ‘Karel, Alois’, Československý hudební slovník: osob a institucí, vol.1, (Prague: Státní hudební vydavatelství, 1963), 649 states that Karel failed to complete the Conservatory course due to illness, and that he was active in Germany as a 'cellist and concert master in 1861 until his death. Compositions include 2 overtures, a 'cello concerto, and various chamber works.
