Félicien-César David
David, Félicien-César (1810-1876). French composer and conductor. Entered the Paris Conservatoire in 1830. Travelled to the near East for two years in 1833, returning to Igny in 1835 and then back to Paris in 1841. His impressions of Eastern music culture were reproduced in his own compositions and most vividly in the descriptive and at the time extremely successful Ode-Syphonie Le désert. His other music includes several operas, other orchestral works including 2 symphonies, much chamber music, songs and piano pieces.
