Jan Ladislav Dusík
Dussek Duschek
Dusík, Jan Ladislav (1760-1812). Composer and pianist. Studied in Jihlava, Kutná Hora and Prague. He intended to join a monastic order but instead entered the service of Count Männer as a musician. He subsequently travelled widely and frequently throughout Europe, including to Belgium, Holland, England (1790-1800), France, Germany and Russia. Initially worked as a teacher, organist and pianist, but increasingly he developed a reputation and career as one of the leading, stylistically characteristic piano virtuosi of his day. From the foundation of a Classical idiom his vast output of piano works originally and strikingly pushed forward into the Romantic era and occasionally incorporated elements of Czech folk music.
