Daniel Friedrich Rudolph

Kuhlau, Friedrich (1786-1832). German composer. Acquired a musical education in Brunswick and Hamburg before fleeing to Denmark during the French occupation. Settled in Copenhagen where he became flautist in the court orchestra. His substantial output of compositions included a phalanx of operas (most notably Lulu), incidental music, piano works, flute pieces and many songs, partsongs and choruses in both German and Danish.
