Abraham Louis

Niedermeyer, Louis (1802-1861). Swiss composer and teacher. Studied in Vienna, Rome and Naples. Briefly worked as a music teacher in Geneva before visiting Paris in 1823 and soon after settling in the French capital. He later took over the private music school of Choron, establishing in its place the École de Musique Religieuse Classique and attempting to invest contemporary church music with pre-classical techniques. His compositions, in addition to church music also included several operas and a body of secular songs.
