Karl Černý

Czerny, Carl (1791-1857). Austrian pianist, composer and pedagogue. Initially taught by his father, later by Beethoven and also by Hummel and Clementi. Gained an enormous reputation as a gifted teacher. Prolific as a composer, over 1000 opus numbers, including much church music, chamber music and of course many piano works. Tagesbote aus Böhmen 19/7/1857, in a Feuilleton section reproduced from the Vienna press, published an extended account of his life and activities.
